Ligue 1 is preparing to mark a turning point with the introduction of a brand new golden trophy intended to replace the Hexagoal, emblem of the competition since the 2006/2007 season.

Inspired by the prestigious NBA trophy, this new sporting object of art will symbolize the modernity of French football from the 2024/2025 season. The new trophy, designed by French artist Mathias Kiss in collaboration with Maison Christofle, is distinguished by its refined aesthetic. Its innovative structure is made up of four legs shaped in the shape of the number “1”, supporting a smooth round ball, the universal symbol of football. The base, for its part, is decorated with the engraving of the names of former champions of the French championship since the 1932/1933 season.

The launch of this new trophy is part of a vast rebranding project for Ligue 1, including an overhaul of the logo, visual and sound identities, as well as innovative initiatives in stadiums, digital and television. The objective is clear: to elevate the competitions’ brands – notably Ligue 1 McDonald’s and Ligue 2 BKT – and strengthen their connection with fans. This rebranding aims to position French club football as an embodiment of French excellence, both sportingly and aesthetically.

The LFP wants a new image of Ligue 1

Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP, spoke about the introduction of this new trophy for Ligue 1: “ The work created by Mathias Kiss refers to the best of our national heritage, with its hexagonal base, its gilding and its grooves. But by introducing a modern breath which corresponds perfectly to our objective of establishing our club football as the incarnation of French excellence. ».

The alliance of French classicism and contemporary influences is also manifested by the gold-plated sphere which crowns the trophy, adding a touch of elegance and prestige. Measuring 54 centimeters in height and weighing approximately 10 kilograms, this trophy imposes its presence while remaining easy to handle for the winners. Ligue 1 is not the only one to benefit from this modernization movement. Ligue 2 BKT also plans to unveil its own trophy before the end of 2024, adopting a similar approach to rebranding and promoting the competitions.
