These new big changes to off-peak hours: what to expect

Here’s what the new off-peak hours reform will change on your electricity bill from next year!

It’s a big change that will take place next year regarding off-peak hours. Indeed, these will soon change and this will have a direct impact on your electricity bill.

The advantage of off-peak/peak hours

15 million French households have opted for the off-peak and off-peak electricity contract. It is a solution that allows many consumers to reduce their electricity bill.

Indeed, if the French use this system of peak and off-peak hours well, then they will be able to make significant savings on a daily basis. And for good reason, consumers use these time slots to run their washing machine, their dishwasher or even turn on their water heater.

Often these beaches are at night and at certain times of the day. But next year, they will change for a very specific reason. Indeed, a new reform will see the light of day to make this contract more interesting for the French.

The off-peak and peak hours contract allows to balance user consumption throughout the day. Please note that these time slots are not the same depending on each region.

They are between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., or between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. depending on the contracts. As said previously, they allow you to make great savings on a daily basis. But the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) plans to change them.

A new reform to come

On May 17, 2024, the CRE decided to propose a new reform concerning off-peak and peak hours. The goal? Choose them according to the season. The Commission proposed moving these hours to daytime hours in the spring and summer.

This is when photovoltaic production reaches its peak. In winter, these time slots will remain maintained at night. Thus, this allows give advantageous rates to individuals.

Emmanuel Wargon, president of the CRE, indicated that she wanted “bring prices and production capacities into line”. Thus, this reform aims to allow consumers to get a good return on their contract.

If you want to take out a peak/off-peak contract, it is important to make a good calculation. Indeed, if you consume less than 30% on your electricity during off-peak hours, this is a bad idea.

On the other hand, “from a use beyond 30%, especially from 50%, this is the best type of contract to adopt”revealed our colleagues from Maison-Travaux.

How do I know the time slots?

If you want to know more about your peak or off-peak hours, it’s very simple. You will be able to see it directly on your energy supplier’s application. But that’s not all.

If you do not have this application, you can contact your supplier directly. Another option exists: you can find this information on your electricity bill.

“Often, people don’t even know if they are on peak/off-peak hours”specified Julien Tchernia, co-founder and president of Ekwateur. He then advised: “. Take a look at your contract ».

One thing is certain, it is a new reform which will change the habits of many consumers. It should enable them to save more money every day. So good news.

It remains to be seen when this new time slot will apply. To be continued!
