Floods in La Chartre-sur-le-Loir: no major damage but a historic flood

After the Huisne at La Ferté Bernard, it is now the Loir and its tributaries which overflow at Chartre-sur-le-Loir. Last week, the river was on red alert upstream (in Eure et Loir) following the record rainfall on Wednesday October 9, 2024 and it took a few days for the level to rise in . This has been the case since Sunday.

The Loir and its tributaries burst their banks and water invaded the fields around the town, the racecourse and part of the town’s campsite. Some roads were also flooded as well as around ten cellars according to the town hall. Even if damage is limitedthis flood is the third largest in the history of the municipality, behind those of 2004 and 2021.

Many residents equipped with pumps

The water rose to 1m31” explains Guy Desiles, 2nd deputy mayor of La Chartre, “more we know how to manage. We are used to. As soon as it rises, municipal employees block the roads“Many residents are equipped with pumps. Simone, 95, whose house is located on the banks of the Loir in the village, has used three.”It was my great-grandchildren who came to help me. I had 15 cm of water in my basement. There is my washing machine and my boiler. It’s a hassle, the nerves take a hit“.

Jacky lives next to La Veuve, a tributary of the Loir. He also pumped the water from his garden and regularly monitors the sewer system: “I’m looking because I have a shower and toilet in the basement. I’m afraid the water will come up through the pipes. It already happened“But the concern is dissipating, the decline having started this Tuesday, October 15, even if according to Guy Désiles, “it will take several days before the water completely disappears“.
