KT Tunstall has been named this year’s recipient of the Ivor Novello Award for his outstanding collection of songs.

Yesterday (May 16), the Ivors Academy announced that Tunstall was the 58th recipient of the award, following in the footsteps of Queen, U2, New Order, Pulp, Noel Gallagher and many others. Most recently, Kamille received this prestigious award in 2023.

Tunstall will receive the award at The Ivors with Amazon Music, taking place at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday May 23. The awards ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. BST and can be streamed here.

Tunstall said of receiving the honor via a press release: “My relationship with the Ivor Novello Awards began 18 years ago, in 2006, with “Suddenly I See” winning Best Song Musically and Lyrically. My statuette has remained the most meaningful award for me and coming full circle by receiving this Outstanding Song Collection Award is like a gesture of appreciation towards my work since then.

Tom Gray, Chairman of the Ivors Academy, said: “KT Tunstall’s songwriting talent and achievements have impressed and continually evolved throughout his musical career. Eighteen years after his first victory, it is a privilege to welcome KT back to the Ivors and present him with this much-deserved Ivor Novello Award.

To commemorate Tunstall winning the Outstanding Song Collection award, Amazon Music has released a previously unreleased demo of Tunstall’s iconic 2006 song, “Suddenly I See” – listen to it here.

KT Tunstall has released eight studio albums to date, starting with “Eye to the Telescope” in 2004 and most recently releasing “Face To Face” with Suzi Quatro in 2023.

Tunstall recently made headlines after striking up an unlikely friendship with Azealia Banks following the latter’s comments about Beyoncé’s new album, ‘Cowboy Carter’. Banks had complained about the absence of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, before claiming that she “personally would have jumped out of my seat for a KT Tunstall appearance” on the record.

Reply to the comment by sharing ZikNationTo Tunstall’s article, Tunstall has since responded on social media, jokingly writing: “I 100% would have gotten off the couch to be honest.” The exchanges continued, with Banks quoting Tunstall’s response and responding on Instagram: “‘Suddenly I See’ is one of my favorite songs @kttunstall! I always hit that jaw!!

Tunstall herself responded to Banks’ comment, saying: “Many thanks xxx In these strange times, I’m grateful to have sat in my shitty basement in London and written these songs on my own, without no dilution – honestly and raw, with no agenda. More of that (and joy please!) from all of us. Kiss to you. »
