He is accused of having, on October 10, 2017, killed Rabinkumar Tuhobul at Villa Lotus, Trou-aux-Biches. On October 8, 2024, Louis Dean Hamilton Golding, a 46-year-old resident of Pamplemousses, pleaded not guilty to a charge of “manslaughter” in the criminal court. His trial will be heard on the merits on September 1, 2025.
It was on June 1, 2022 that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) lodged a formal accusation of “manslaughter” against Louis Dean Hamilton Golding in the criminal court. This is under sections 215 and 223(1) & (3) of the Penal Code. The forty-year-old is accused of having killed Rabinkumar Tuhobul, a resident of Triolet, then aged 60. He was the owner and manager of Villa Lotus located in Trou-aux-Biches, the place where he was killed. A list of 38 witnesses was drawn up in the wake of this trial. Louis Dean Hamilton Golding retained the services of Me Alwin Juwaheer. The latter had also presented a motion for the release of his client.
On October 8, 2024, during the session before Judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb, Me Nadjiyya Dauhoo, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions argued that there is still objection to Louis Dean Hamilton Golding being released on bail. The latter’s trial was subsequently set to be heard on the merits from September 1 to 12, 2025.
The body of Rabinkumar Tuhobul was discovered in a room at Villa Lotus on October 10, 2017, by a security guard who had just taken up his post. He immediately raised the alarm and the police were called to the scene. The sixty-year-old had facial injuries, which pushed the sleuths to favor the theory of a malicious act. The post-mortem examination, carried out by the forensic pathologist, Dr Prem Chamane, attributed the death of Rabinkumar Tuhobul to a broken neck.
Several people were arrested in this case. Notably Louis Dean Hamilton Golding, his wife Marie Clothilda Golding (37 years old), Louis Jean Jacques Russia (48 years old) and Louis Romuald Jérôme Joseph (43 years old), among others.
According to cross-references, this crime was the result of a theft gone wrong. The suspects are said to have hatched a plan to rob Villa Lotus. Once inside on the fateful day, they came across the owner Rabinkumar Tuhobul. They fatally attacked him and stole several items before fleeing. Louis Dean Hamilton Golding was arrested on November 9, 2017, after a month on the run. As for the others, they were prosecuted and convicted in the intermediate court in this case.
Louis Romuald Jérôme Joseph was sentenced to ten years in prison for assault and battery causing the death of a man without intent to kill. He was accused of fatally assaulting Rabinkumar Tuhobul and had pleaded guilty to the offense.
Marie Clothilda Golding and Louis Jean Jacques Russia were sentenced to three years in prison each for complicity in theft. They were accused of having hatched a plot with Louis Dean Hamilton Golding and Louis Romuald Jérôme Joseph to commit this crime. They also pleaded guilty.
