Brakel

Today we choose the politicians who will govern Brakel for the next six years. As soon as the results are known, you can find the first analysis here with reactions from the winners and losers later in the day.

This article will be continuously updated on election day.

Open VLD remains the largest party in Brakel and retains the absolute majority. The De Croo family remains loved by the Brakel residents. Compared to their monster score in 2018, the Liberals have lost barely two seats.

Alexander De Croo succeeds Stefaan Devleeschouwer as mayor. The absolute majority is so narrow that a coalition partner imposes itself. Open VLD can choose from Vooruit, Groen and Broakel 2.0, if we assume that Alexander De Croo will not break the cordon sanitary with Vlaams Belang.

Broakel 2.0 is the project of CD&V, N-VA and independents. They won six seats and thus became the second largest party in Brakel. In 2000, 2006 and 2012, Open VLD repeatedly ignored the Christian Democratic party. The liberals then always opted for a purple policy. Let’s wait and see whether Alexander De Croo will approach things differently than his father Herman De Croo did back then.

Vlaams Belang wins four seats, at the expense of Vooruit, which, like Groen, ends up with one seat.

This article will be supplemented with analyzes and responses as soon as possible on election day, October 13, 2024.
