Death of Bédié: PDCI general delegations in the United States pay tribute to the former president

A tribute ceremony was organized by the general delegations of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI-RDA) in the United States in honor of the late Henri Konan Bédié. Held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Embassy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in the United States, this ceremony brought together a large crowd who came to pay tribute to a major political figure of Côte d’Ivoire.

Under the High Patronage of Tidjane Thiam, President of the PDCI-RDA, and the co-sponsorship of Noël Akossi Bendjo and Sylvestre Ackah Emmou, the ceremony was marked by the presence of eminent personalities, notably Mathieu Touré, first advisor of the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in Washington DC, and the vice-presidents of the PDCI-RDA, Vei Bernard and Thierry Tanoh.

“After Mr. Mathieu Touré’s welcome remarks, Vice-President Vei Bernard set the scene for the day’s ceremony. Following him, Mr. Jean-Benoît Papa-Nouveau delivered the godfather’s message and gave the official program for the national funeral. Followed by Inspector Jeannine Brutus, spokesperson for political staff in North America, who spoke about the journey and legacy of the late President,” the Source said.

“Religious guides, leaders of political parties and organizations, as well as leaders of community associations took turns speaking to offer prayers, present their condolences and renew their solidarity with the biological and political families of the deceased. This was followed by testimonies from the Ivorian diaspora, activists and supporters who came in large numbers to participate in this ceremony. It was in contemplation, conviviality and in the hope of Progress for All and Happiness for Everyone that this ceremony took place,” indicated the Source.

In a spirit of contemplation, conviviality, and hope for the future, the ceremony ended with the warm thanks of Konan Oswald Yao, PDCI-RDA General Delegate of Washington DC, to all the guests, and the invitation to meet at the official funeral which will take place in Ivory Coast.
