Since Tuesday, October 8, many districts of the Marseille city have been under water. In some places, almost 50 mm of rain fell in less than an hour.
Marseille is under water. This Tuesday, October 8, early in the morning, numerous videos were shared on social networks revealing a completely flooded Marseille city.
“Numerous urban flooding in Marseille this morning of October 8, 2024. The Longchamp station recorded 48.5 mm of rain between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.! Total accumulations locally reaching 70 mm”, explains on the social network X, the meteorologist Guillaume Séchet.

Other images show schools which would also have been affected by these floods as well as motorists who seem to have been surprised by this rapid rise in water.
Information confirmed by Provence which indicates that a nursery school in the 7th arrondissement is closed “due to a flood, the 3rd since the start of the school year, of a class, a corridor and the dormitory”.
For his part, the mayor of Marseille called on residents “to be careful when traveling” and ensures that “all city officials and firefighters are hard at work to return to normal.”
