Trump is manipulating Americans who are going to die

As Florida barricades itself in an attempt to survive the “hurricane of the century,” many Trumpists accuse the government of literally made storms for electoral reasons. The Republican candidate accumulates lies, causing “serious harm” to the affected populations.

“Do you really believe this storm is completely natural?” This is how a very popular account on We are talking here about a real catastrophe in the making. Of an “unprecedented” phenomenon which has intensified at “historic speed” in recent hours, in the Gulf of Mexico.

This is a serious time. Meteorologists are crying live on air and the mayor of the city of Tampa, the estimated landing pad for this category 5 (out of 5) hurricane, is no longer wearing gloves to warn her population:

“I can say without any dramatization: if you choose to stay in one of these evacuation zones, you will die”

Jane Castor, Mayor of the City of Tampa

The Tampa Bay region, on Florida’s west coast, is right to fear the worst: Milton will be the first hurricane to directly hit this metropolitan area, which now has a population of 3.3 million, since the 1920s. that her little sister, Helene, has not yet revealed all her corpses, we are already promised a second service even more devastating, to the point that the debris of the previous hurricane will become extremely dangerous projectives from Wednesday morning.

While one might expect elected officials from all sides to unite against “the monster,” Donald Trump and his supporters have chosen to seize the drama to turn it into an electoral weapon full of false information. Since Helene’s passage, the Republican candidate has been at full speed to accuse the federal government of all evils.

The summary of Trump’s lies:

  • “The Democratic governor of the state of North Carolina is doing everything possible not to help residents in Republican areas.” | FAUX
  • “Biden and Harris are universally receiving BAD GRADES for how they are handling the hurricane, especially in North Carolina.” | FAUX
  • “Kamala spent all of FEMA’s (Federal Emergency Management Agency) money, billions of dollars, to house illegal immigrants.” | FAUX
  • “Think about it: We give hundreds of billions of dollars to foreign countries and we only give $750 to the people of North Carolina.” | FALSE (the $750 is only immediate aid, for urgent and vital needs)
  • “Kamala dined and wined in San Francisco, and all the people in North Carolina have no helicopters, no backup.” | FAUX

Donald Trump’s campaign strategy can be summed up in one sentence: to make American citizens believe that the United States is a veritable hell on earth, which only he can save. A technique that he applies to the economy and immigration, as when he maintains that migrants in the city of Springfield eat the residents’ pets. The idea is to create enough panic for voters to understand that the Democrats have transformed the country into a dystopian disaster movie.

It is therefore not surprising that the Republican candidate is using natural disasters today to drive the point home. In response to these daily attacks, Kamala Harris had very harsh words on the show The View.

“It’s irresponsible, intolerable. People lose their homes with no hope of ever being able to rebuild or return to them. The idea that someone can play political games for their own good is so consistent with Trump.”

Kamala Harris

It must be said that Donald Trump’s lies are making the work of rescuers on the ground quite complicated, particularly in North Carolina, where the region is struggling to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

The American media speak of “strong tensions” within the affected populations, due to “unfounded rumors” spread by the Trumpists. But not all Republicans agree with the 45th president of the United States. Like Republican Senator Kevin Corbin, from a particularly devastated region, who appears exasperated on Facebook:

“Will you all help stop these conspiracy theories circulating all over the internet about the flooding in North Carolina? These rumors are just a distraction to people trying to do their jobs.”

Kevin Corbin, Republican senator from North Carolina.

Hurricane-creating laser beams?

But there are worse things and even less credible ones. For a certain segment of the MAGA movement, the most extremist, the hurricanes which hit the south of the country “are not natural”. In other words, the Biden government would fabricate storms for political reasons.

Improbable conspiracies which are carried by important personalities and prominent elected officials. Starting with Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican Representative of the House, who claims that Democrats “control” disasters “with lasers”to “ensure that the devastation caused by the hurricane affects the elections.”

This is not the first time that the Trumpist elected official has invoked lasers to try to exterminate the “deep state”. In 2021, she already claimed that the forest fires that burned a large part of California came from a kind of “Jewish space laser”. The problem is that she is by far not the only one to think that the hurricanes currently ravaging Florida are a creation of the political enemy.

“I hope North Carolina understands who did this to them and why. This was by no means a natural hurricane. It was a man-made hurricane. There are very bad people who want land and power by any means possible.

A Trumpist on the X platform

While Donald Trump has not finished spreading lies about the reconstruction of the country after the passage of Helen, the arrival of Milton should further complicate things in the days to come. Especially since the rumors are devastating when “entire populations suddenly no longer have access to traditional media because of power cuts,” Juliette Kayyem, former deputy secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, explained again on Tuesday.
