Good news: inflation is finally falling! According to a recent article from 60 million consumers,the largest drops, beyond 3%, specifies the latter, relate to the major brands of a handful of products widely purchased on a daily basis. Figures from the NielsenIQ institute confirm this: for the first time, prices are falling over a year, insists the association. Negotiations with distributors, completed at the end of January, which will have borne fruit.
Another element which favored this generalized decline : the effects of the Descrozaille or Egalim 3 law, which caps promotions for non-food products at 34% since March, underlines the association. However, the figures remain published excluding promotions, would like to clarify the latter. “To compensate for the end of megapromotions, brands have clearly lowered the prices of products at the back of the shelf,” analyzes Emmanuel Cannes, from NielsenIQ for 60 million consumers.
Some products are still on fire…
Overall, the evolution of prices in supermarkets in April showed an increase limited to less than 1% over one year and less than 20% over two years, points out the article. Unfortunately, the prices of all products are not falling.
Four departments still show a rate of increase greater than 4%. Three of them are suffering from soaring prices for their raw materials following difficult harvests last year: the shelves of olive oils, orange juice and chocolate. For citrus nectars and chocolate bars, the high price of sugar does not help, even if it has fallen recently.
