The closure of the 4 studios decided by Xbox has caused a lot of reaction over the past 48 hours. Mysteries, questions, amazement, everyone tries to understand what pushed the Redmond firm to make this decision while the company’s latest speech goes against the grain of their actions. If the debates are likely to continue for a long time, it seems that these four curtain drops are not the only bad news at Xbox, and today we are talking about the Perfect Dark reboot.

Perfect Dark reboot called into question?

The game was indeed at the heart of discussions during the last Giant Bombcast in which Jeff Grubb participated. The journalist, often well informed, took advantage of his participation in the show to discuss the progress of the Perfect Dark reboot, which according to him is in a poor state.

I hear more and more often that Perfect Dark is in bad shape, that it seems to be in very bad shape.

Also participating in this podcast, Alex Donaldson, journalist at VG247, also went in the same direction as his colleague by describing the game as: “a team really trying to push a boulder up a steep hill”.

Among the other speakers was video game historian Liam Robertson who, like the other two, didn’t exactly have the most optimistic speech:

From what little I’ve heard about the development of the new Perfect Dark, it sounds like a future video in the works. It’s just a big mess that drags on forever.

If the time to succumb to fatalism has not yet come, these comments indicate that nothing seems to be working out for this reboot with complicated development, but still in progress among the teams of The Initiative.

Presented for the first time during the 2020 Game Awards, The Initiative then never showed anything of this new Perfect Dark following years of failures in the development of the title.

In reality, all these mishaps would be the result of a difficult co-development partnership with Certain Affinity, which worked on the game between 2019 and 2021, and heavy attrition within The Initiative.
