It was a very nice rugby match this Thursday evening at the Rabine stadium. And it’s not just because the CAB won. CA Brive effectively brings back four points from Vannes, in Brittany, leader of this Pro D2. Final score: 26 to 21.

Brive dealt the first blow in the 4th minute, before nevertheless giving in to the power of Joe Edwards. But nevertheless, the Brivists managed to stay in contact thanks in particular to the touch of Stuart Olding…and above all a strong defense, even if the Brivists conceded two tries during the first half (Edwards and Bordelai).

However, Brive stayed close to Vannes, losing 14 to 13 at halftime. Only one point which will then break out with a new try scored by the Corréziens and the young George Shvelidze, after a try refused to Arthur Bonneval. The Brivists will resist until the end, taking every opportunity to score points. The last 10 minutes were intense, Brive even had the match point but the throw was inconclusive. Fortunately, the Brive players managed to get the ball out and kick in a final scrum to win.

“A huge waste of the entire season”

Yes, however, the Brivists remained modest after bringing down the leader at home, something only three teams have achieved this season (Aix, Grenoble and therefore Brive). “The season is a big waste” Pierre-Henry Broncan even commented at the end of the meeting. “It’s annoying because we’ve been inconsistent all season. The biggest danger is Biarritz. That’s where the hardest part begins. The hardest part wasn’t beating Vannes” underlines the manager who wants to keep its players focused.

What is true is that in the ranking, Brive is sixth before Friday’s matches: Montauban receives Mont-de-Marsan, Dax receives Agen and Nevers travels to Béziers. It is after these meetings that we will be able to say if Brive will succeed in its bet.
