Danny and Sally’s gang is in mourning. Indeed, on Thursday May 2, the actress Susan Buckner died “peacefully” at Miami “surrounded by loved ones”. Aged 72, the star got her first role playing a cheerleader in the 1978 musical Grease. She played the role of Patty Simcox in front of Randal Kleiser’s camera, alongside John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. If the causes of her death have not been revealed by her family or her agent, this death comes after that of Olivia Newton-John, who died in 2022 at the age of 73, after having led a long fight against cancer. Just like after the disappearance of the one who played “his Sandy” on screen, John Travolta wanted to speak out when the death of Susan Buckner was announced.
On Instagram, the star actor Grease and of Saturday night fever paid tribute to the actress, posting two photos of her in the story: one taken during the filming of Greasethe other, more recent. “Susan you made Grease so special ! We will miss you”he wrote, in the caption of the photos.
Beauty queen before being an actress
Born in 1952 in Seattle, Washington, Susan Buckner first made a name for herself competing in beauty pageants. She won the Miss Washington State competition in 1971, before entering the Miss America competition the following year. She finished among the top ten. She then turned to the cinema, landing in 1978 the role of Sandy’s cheerleader friend, in Grease.
