From June 10, 2024, players with a Nintendo Switch will no longer be able to share their screenshots and videos on X (formerly Twitter) from the Album section of the console. It will also no longer be possible to send friend requests to users on social networks via the friend suggestions function.

End of integration between Nintendo Switch and X

Nintendo https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1788375084886892947 for removing the feature, but big companies like it, Sony and Microsoft are being charged upwards of $40,000 per month if they want to maintain the integration. This is explained by the fact that X has decided to charge for the use of its API since Elon Musk was in charge.

An interesting element is that X decided to respond to Nintendo’s message. The platform https://twitter.com/xGaming/status/1788375541931704828 :

The gaming community is one of the largest and most vibrant on our platform, and we are dedicated to improving and supporting game-related features. As part of Nintendo’s planned shutdown of content sharing to X from Nintendo Switch, starting June 11, users will have to upload Switch gaming media directly to their smartphones and share them natively on our platform.

Our partnership with Nintendo remains strong and we are working together to ensure a smooth transition for all users. We will continue to collaborate with our partners to deliver exciting new experiences to our global gaming community.

Microsoft disabled integration between Xbox and X in March 2023. Sony did the same for PlayStation in November. Again, the reason for withdrawal is the cost of the API.
