Thursday, May 9, at the beginning of the afternoon, dozens of free flight enthusiasts shared the Millavois sky above the Pouncho d’Agast, taking advantage of favorable and long-awaited weather conditions.
The afternoon which began under the best auspices was however disrupted by a fatal accident. Just before 3 p.m., a paraglider reportedly fell shortly after taking off from the takeoff area. The unfortunate man fell below in an area difficult to access. after a fall of several tens of meters » according to witnesses. Millavie emergency services were immediately notified and had difficulty reaching the victim.
The GRIMP (Research and Intervention Group in Perilous Environments) intervened as well as a helicopter which arrived on the scene at 5 p.m. The victim is a 69-year-old man. Very seriously injured, he was airlifted then brought to the ground to be transported by a Samu helicopter to the Montpellier University Hospital. Unfortunately, he died of a cardiac arrest during his transfer.
