10 a.m. in Argentina – Live launch

Buenos Aires, ghost town, reflection of a country at a standstill this Thursday morning!

From this Wednesday evening, during shift changes, the strike called by the main union centers in the country, the CGT and the CTA, was expected to follow. The anger of workers has already been strongly felt in night shifts, such as at the food producers Mondelez and Coca Cola, the tire factory Fate, the steel producer Techint or the bus company UTA, all in strike.

In Buenos Aires, the highways are empty, the airport tarmacs are silent and construction sites have not opened. Around the capital, there are no trains, buses or metro. In Mendoza, in the west of the country, the airport is completely paralyzed, schools are almost empty and banks are completely paralyzed. Ditto in Neuquen, where the transport strike is complete.

A show of force from the labor movement after a very successful first strike on January 24 against Milei’s austerity plans which hampered the government’s plans. Despite everything, this strike, due to the blocking of certain yellow unions, did not make it possible to mobilize the entire Argentine working class, particularly workers employed in the informal sector. If the strike of May 9, which officially began this Thursday at midnight (5 a.m., French time), promises to be total, many militant sectors and the parties of the revolutionary left intend to make the strike effective by holding pickets and by carrying out blocking actions.
