The Olympic flame began its journey in France this Thursday morning. From the emblematic Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica, Marseille football legend Basile Boli was the first to carry the torch which will arrive in Paris for the Olympics on July 26.

In total, 10,000 torchbearers will follow one another in 400 cities in France until the opening ceremony.

Marseille is the only city with Paris crossed for an entire day by the relay. The first Olympic cauldron was set alight on Wednesday evening in the Old Port by Marseille rapper Jul, in front of 150,000 people, after a grandiose maritime parade on the Mediterranean.

Sun and heat for this Ascension Thursday. According to Météo France, the few clouds present this Thursday morning in the north of the country should disappear almost completely. Temperatures should be seasonal in the north of the country at around twenty degrees, or even a little higher.

On Friday, the thermometer should rise another notch or two. The increase could be even greater in the northern half.
