China’s crude oil imports rose in April from a year earlier as refiners prepare for the travel season to fully resume on Labor Day, official data showed THURSDAY.

Crude imports in April totaled 44.72 million metric tons, or about 10.88 million barrels per day (bpd), according to data from the General Administration of Customs.

This represents an increase of 5.45% from the relatively low level of 10.4 million bpd imported in April 2023.

China recorded more than 1.3 billion passenger trips during the five-day Labor Day holiday that began on May 1, up 2.1 percent from a year earlier, according to state media Xinhua reported.

Road traffic rose 2.1 percent, while air travel jumped 8.1 percent, according to Xinhua.

Seat capacity at domestic airlines increased 1.3% in April compared to last year, according to data from consulting firm OAG.

China’s manufacturing sector continued to experience a tepid recovery in April. The official purchasing managers’ index fell to 50.4 in April from 50.8 in March, remaining above the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction, but indicating slower expansion in l activity compared to the previous mouth.
