Last weekend, a mother and her son were shot dead in Makala, a commune in the south of the city, after an anti-gang police operation in Kinshasa.

The family of the victims accuses a police patrol which was looking for Kulunas, these delinquents armed with bladed weapons who sow terror. Authorities have admitted the double murder, but are investigating the identity of the perpetrators. A police officer is already under arrest.

According to the family’s account, the police patrol arrested young Sarif Mukeba, 25, in front of the family home as he returned from football training. Alerted, his mother intervened but without success.

She then continued the patrol on the same route to free her son in vain. It was only in the early morning that the lifeless body of this mother was found riddled with bullets on an avenue. The son who was also affected died in a military hospital where he had been taken.

Government wants assessment of men in uniform

Peter Kazadi, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, measures his remarks concerning the identity of the culprits: “ I would like to express my regret and dismay over the shooting deaths of two of our compatriots, victims of a heinous criminal act perpetrated according to security reports by unidentified individuals dressed in police uniform. »

The police affirm that the National Legion mobilized for the anti-gang operation was not operational in this town on the day of the incident.
