Inaugurated this Tuesday at the children’s hospital of Dijon University Hospital, the collective work Hope in motion is the result of a support workshop organized by diabetologists from the University Hospital and the families of children with type 1 diabetes, and inspired by the story of Mariami, a 13-year-old diabetic from Georgia.

“The idea of this work was to mobilize children with diabetes, their families and their caregivers around the theme of help and mutual aid. Each child received a disc on October 18, during Dreams of Sick Children Day, with the mission of answering two questions: ”What do I need to help others?” and ”What do I need to help others?” do I need to be helped?”, explains Doctor Candace Ben Signor, diabetologist at Dijon University Hospital. The answers were written on both sides of the disc. Children were at the heart of the creative process, while the work was also completed by caregivers in all departments of the University Hospital.

“The base represents the bridge of peace in Georgia”

Designed by sculptor Stéphane Bouchon, the work is imbued with strong symbolism. “The base represents the bridge of peace in Georgia and symbolizes the ordeal that Mariami and her family are going through. The wheel, containing the answer disks, seems ready to launch and cross this bridge. Its flexible appearance, evoking a chain of mail assembled to protect the individual, reflects the support and unity of the community in supporting Mariami,” adds Doctor Candace Ben Signor.
