“Sharing deterrence means abolishing it”: Le Pen opposed to the European nuclear deterrent mentioned by Macron

“Sharing deterrence means abolishing it and therefore weakening France.” Marine Le Pen firmly opposes the idea of a European nuclear deterrent, mentioned a few days ago by Emmanuel Macron and which sparked a reaction within the oppositions.

In an interview given at the end of April to the Ebra group’s newspapers, the President of the Republic said he was “opening the debate” on the subject of European defense which could notably include nuclear weapons.

“Such a choice would weaken our democracy”

“Let’s put everything on the table and look at what truly protects us in a credible way,” added Emmanuel Macron, assuring that France would keep “its specificity but is ready to contribute more to the defense of European soil”.

“Such a choice would once again weaken our democracy,” replied the head of the RN deputies in a column in Le Figaro.

Marine Le Pen proposes for her part that “the inclusion in the Constitution of the exclusive use of nuclear discussion by the President of the Republic alone, for the sole defense of vital interests of which he is the sole judge, according to the doctrine in force”. A measure that it justifies “to reaffirm the prestige of France, to ensure its security, so that today as tomorrow the French cannot be dispossessed of this tool of power”.
