L The demolition operation has begun. Since yesterday, the machines have come into action and the days of the Croncels bridge are numbered. This is nothing to say since the demolition is scheduled from Wednesday May 8 to Friday May 10.

A three-day express demolition to remove most of the Croncels bridge built in 1894, on rue du Faubourg-Croncels which joins boulevard de Dijon in Saint-Julien-les-Villas. A constraint imposed by SNCF Réseau since the demolition work on the bridge prohibits access to the SNCF tracks and traffic on the Paris-Mulhouse railway line must be reopened this weekend.

“Depending on needs, the work will continue at night because train traffic must reopen on Saturday at 8 a.m.”

Nicolas Honore

“The site is entering its demolition phase which must be completed in three days, in a very short time dictated by the need to reopen the SNCF tracks. Depending on needs, the construction site will continue at night because train traffic must reopen on Saturday at 8 a.m. »indicates Nicolas Honoré, deputy in charge of trade.

There were many onlookers to accompany the last hours of this emblematic bridge which has now become too dilapidated. Moreover, this structure has for several years been subject to a traffic restriction concerning vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes (excluding public services) to limit its degradation. The demolition machines attacked the covering yesterday to reach the metal structure which will then be cut out.

Work which should be completed next December

“We followed all phases of the construction site. We didn’t want to miss it and we’re retired so that’s a goal for the trip.”, comments this resident of Boulevard Jules-Guesde. Many take out their cell phones to immortalize the moment. “It’s really impressive and then a page turns in the neighborhood, I keep the memory of it,” comments Pierre, 68 years old, while taking a few photos.

Started in January 2024, the reconstruction work on the Croncels bridge, the cost of which is €5,493,752 excluding tax, should be completed next December with the creation of a functional bridge meeting both the security and urban challenges of the district. .

Reopening of automobile traffic on May 13

From Monday, May 13, traffic, completely closed, day and night, since May 6, should reopen in one direction, a return lane from Saint-Julien-les-Villas.

“The demolition phase was preceded by the construction of a temporary bridge which will make it possible to maintain a flow of automobile traffic from May to October in the direction towards Troyes from Monday and throughout the reconstruction of the new bridge. In mid-October, car traffic will resume in both directions on one lane to be fully reopened in mid-December.announces Nicolas Honoré.
