It’s been a while since a German series has created a surprise on Netflix. Almost four years after the end of the series Darkwhich had plunged subscribers into convoluted reflections to try to understand the plot, a new series from across the Rhine is causing a sensation on the platform. The Signal, released on March 7, is already number 2 in the top France and top world charts. The only series that still overshadows it is The Gentlemen, by Guy Ritchie. But the two current programs are not evolving on the same register. The Signal takes us into a science fiction universe from which we emerge after only 4 hours and 12 minutes. In The Signal, Sven awaits the return of his wife Paula, an astronaut, from a mission on the ISS. Charlie, their daughter, is full of hope. Deaf, she is convinced that her mother will bring scientific advances to enable her cure. But Paula doesn’t come back, the plane that was supposed to bring her home crashes in the middle of the ocean. Sven begins to have doubts about this matter. Convinced that Paula has left him clues, he launches into a crazy investigation. But as his research progresses, his discoveries will completely shake his life and that of his daughter.

Who are the actors of The Signal ?

The Signal comes straight from the imagination of the couple formed by German screenwriters and directors Nadine Gottmann and Sebastien Hilger. In the cast, we find names known to German film fans and who could well afford a more international career thanks to the success of the series. Sven is played by Florian David Fitz, who is also co-creator of the series. The actor has been appearing on television and in German films since 1999. As for Paula, she is played by actress Peri Baumeister. Better known than her on-screen partner, you may recognize her from having seen her in other German series available on Netflix: Skylines And Sleeping Dogs.
