Two people die in a fire in Orme

This Saturday early evening, around 7:45 p.m., a fire broke out on the third floor of a collective apartment building in the Orme district, rue de l’Orme not far from the football field. Two people died in the fire, as well as a dog. Two other people were slightly injured, and a firefighter was injured during the intervention.

Firefighters deployed a major effort to rescue victims and contain the fire. 45 personnel as well as 10 vehicles were mobilized. In addition to controlling the flames, firefighters also carried out several operations in the building. Traffic was completely cut off during the rescue operation.

The National Police were also on site, as well as the SMUR, GrDF, Enedis, the social landlord Vosgelis, owner of the building, the mayor Bruno Toussaint, 3 deputies and 2 municipal councilors, and the sub-prefect of the district Carole Dabrigeon.

11 people had to be relocated following the disaster. They are currently supported by the Deodatian CCAS. Due to the 35th FIG, no hotel rooms are available within a 30km radius. These 11 people will therefore spend the night at the Espace Louise-Michel, or possibly in a gîte in Raon-l’Etape. The other people in the building are staying with their families.

An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy.
