Around 4:30 a.m. this Wednesday, an explosion shook a rental residence near an establishment welcoming the elderly in Puilboreau, near La Rochelle. Charente-Maritime firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene following an emergency call made at 4:40 a.m.

According to Southwest, although initial indications suggested the explosion took place at the senior living facility, it was later confirmed that it occurred at an adjacent rental residence. At 6:20 a.m. this morning, a provisional report showed one seriously injured and two lightly injured. The building suffered significant damage and 30 people were evacuated to the Baillac room in Puilboreau to receive assistance.

Call for caution

Emergency services called on motorists to avoid the area so as not to hinder ongoing operations. According to information collected on site, 44 people were in the residence at the time of the explosion. Only the occupant of the apartment where the explosion allegedly took place was seriously injured.
