In the United States: A 9-year-old mistakes a millionaire for a homeless person and hands him a dollar

Matt Busbice still has stars in his eyes when he talks about his meeting with Ellis, a 9-year-old boy. “I haven’t had this much faith in humanity in a long time,” he confides. At the beginning of April in Baton Rouge (Louisiana), the fire alarm in the forty-year-old’s apartment went off. The wealthy entrepreneur, who owns several sports stores, jumped out of his bed and rushed outside. It was a false alarm, says CBS News.

Instead of going back to bed, Matt figured that now that he was up, why not go get a little coffee. Although disheveled and unkempt, the 42-year-old American went to a nearby establishment. He then remembered that he had not yet said his morning prayer and stood in a corner to meditate. The scene, captured by a surveillance camera, then shows a young boy approaching him. The kid, who was about Matt’s height, had his fist clenched, looking like he was looking for trouble.

Quite the contrary. Ellis opened his hand and handed his interlocutor a bill: “If you’re homeless, here’s a dollar. I have always wanted to help a homeless person so I am seizing this opportunity,” he explained to her. The child had just received this small sum thanks to his good grades. Very moved by the schoolboy’s gesture, Matt invited him to eat something and promised his father, who was not far away, that he would get back in touch.

To thank Ellis for his generosity, the millionaire gave him 40 seconds to choose everything he wanted in one of his stores. The boy set his sights on a bicycle. He assures that he thinks it’s great, but that it wasn’t what he was looking for when donating his dollar. “When you give something, you feel like you get a lot of things in return.” Wisdom that leaves Matt dreaming: “I didn’t understand that when I was a kid. If we manage to spread this around us, everything can change,” he concludes.
