Sad news: former Racing Genk Ngoy Nsumbu, titled in 1999, has died. The former Congolese international was 51 years old.

Ngoy Nsumbu died of cancer at the age of 51, we learned this Tuesday Het Belang Van Limburg. He made KRC Genk history by winning the first league title in the club’s history in 1998-1999, as well as the Cup in 1998 and 2000.

Nsumbu, midfielder, played for Genk from 1997 to 2000. He played 67 games for Limburg, scoring 10 goals, most often in a substitute role.

Congolese international on 8 occasions, Ngoy Nsumbu also wore the colors of Germinal Ekeren, Waregem, Cappellen and Geel. He ended his career in 2004 after a stint at Maccabi Petah Tikva, in Israel.

KRC Genk paid tribute to its former player. “The death of Ngoy N’Sumbu is a great loss for all those who knew him. We will remember him as a good footballer, but above all as a wonderful person,” reads the press release from the club.
