Cybercriminals flood the emails of millions of people making them believe they have won the jackpot.

The popular European lottery Euromillions is the subject of a large-scale scam in Spain to such an extent that the organizer had to issue a warning to the public to prevent cybercriminals from achieving their ends.

It was the Spanish lottery which communicated about this scam which is growing. “We have been informed of the existence of large-scale transmissions of emails purportedly sent by our services using our email in the sender box and our URL, euromillones.com.es, in the message body as well only in the attached documents, all with the aim of usurping our identity and making them credible in the eyes of the victims.”

These fraudulent emails tell recipients that they have won a prize, which of course doesn’t exist.

And the Spanish Lottery clarified: “If you receive an unsolicited email from [email protected] saying that you have won the lottery, please delete it or send it to the police or the Guardia Civil. It’s not ours and it’s a fraud.”

The Spanish organizer of the Euromillions also points out the obvious: it is not possible to win the Euromillions… without having played. You must have purchased a ticket to win the Euromillions. Not to mention that the lottery does not find the winners.

If the grid is a winner, it is up to the player to make himself known to the organizing lotteries. Personal data is never requested to receive the prize. You don’t have to pay to recover your winnings either, as the scammers seem to indicate in their emails.

Receiving an email announcing your Euromillions win will therefore always be a scam, regardless of the country where you played.
