This Monday, May 6, the death of André Trigano is on everyone’s minds, in Pamiers. On the Place du Castella, the French and European flags at the Town Hall are at half mast. “A register of condolences is open at the town hall reception”, explains Mayor Frédérique Thiennot. A portrait of his predecessor must also be hung in the coming minutes at the town hall gates.

“Of course, I would like to offer my condolences to his family, assures the first magistrate of the city, as well as to all those who worked with him, who are deeply attached to him. He was a visionary, he put Pamiers on the rails of economic development: the auto village, truly innovative, and the anticipation of industrial needs with the Gabrielat land reserve…” The old mayor and the new mayor faced off in 2020 in a bitter electoral campaign, and the first months of the municipal mandate were of the same nature. Then time had done its work, and things had calmed down. To the point of seeing the two side by side for a ceremony last February, which made it possible to give the name of André Trigano to the roundabout in the heart of the auto village. “It really made him happy,” believes Ms. Thiennot, happy to have been able to pay this tribute during the lifetime of her predecessor. And it does not exclude that in the future, a new place will bear the name of the one who will have marked the political and daily life of Pamiers for many years.
