On October 3 and 4, 2024, the elected representatives of the Assembly of the Territorial Collectivity of deliberate on around twenty points on the agenda. Among them, the announced reform of the sea dues system as an experimental and exceptional lever to fight against the high cost of living and the poverty affecting part of the island’s population.

Stakeholders are continuing negotiations on the measures to be taken in order to lower the prices of a certain number of food items in mass distribution, including the prefect representing the State. Jean-Christophe Bouvier is currently in to follow up on the various demands.

It is in this context that the Territorial Councilors of the Assembly of Martinique meet for 2 days in plenary session (October 3 and 4, 2024).

This meeting comes after several days of demonstrations in supermarkets and in the streets, alongside riots in certain neighborhoods, notably in Fort de . However, discussions continue between political and economic actors and members of the RPPRAC association. (Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean People and Resources) at the origin of citizen mobilization since September 1st.

The Assembly will have to decide in particular on a possible reform of the dock dues and a decision ”exceptional and experimental fight against the high cost of living and poverty”.

Also on the agenda, the advisors will, among other things, have to give their opinion on the signing of a partnership between the Caisse des Dépôts and the CTM on the subject of the “FEWOS” project. This aims for a “new food model based on healthy, quality and sustainable local supply of school catering in Martinique”.
