URGENT – The NRJ group could decide to stop the Chérie 25 channel if ARCOM does not reverse its decision to remove the TNT frequency from NRJ12: “The entire economic model of the channel is called into question”

In a press release, the NRJ group announced that it could decide to stop the Chérie 25 channel if ARCOM does not reverse its decision to remove the TNT frequency from NRJ12.

“The Board of Directors of NRJ Group met today [hier]examined the progress of the NRJ 12 file. The Board of Directors took note with satisfaction of the decision of the Council of State to accelerate the investigation of the appeal initiated by NRJ Group and NRJ 12 against the decision of ARCOM not to renew the authorization of NRJ 12. Thus the appeal on the merits will be examined by a collegial panel at the latest by the end of November”, begins the press release.

And to add: “NRJ Group’s sole objective is to ensure that NRJ 12 once again has authorization to broadcast in DTT from March 1, 2025 and thus to perpetuate its Television division created in 2005.”

In its press release, the NRJ group warns that “in the event that ARCOM’s decision to deprive NRJ 12 of the TNT frequency it currently has is maintained, the Board of Directors of NRJ Group considers that this would put calls into question the economic viability of the chain and therefore its existence.

“Maintaining the incomprehensible decision of ARCOM not to renew the DTT frequency of NRJ 12 could therefore lead to its disappearance but would also compromise the economic model of Chérie 25. Deprived of the ripple effect of NRJ 12 and the pooling of costs with the other TNT channel in the division, Chérie 25 would record a strongly and lastingly negative current operating result”, specifies the text.

And to conclude: “Thus in the event that the ARCOM decision concerning NRJ 12 were to be confirmed, all the necessary measures with regard to the heavy losses that such a decision would entail for the Group’s Television division should be considered, including including a possible sale of Chérie 25”.
