Special day this Saturday, October 5 at Izaut de l’hôtel: it will be dedicated to the Izaut castrum, its excavations and its development. A heritage and work to discover.

The Sept Collines association and Thibault Lasnier archaeologist in charge of the excavations and the development of the castle, associated member of the TracesS UMR5608 – Terrae laboratory, are organizing this special day this Saturday, October 5 dedicated to the Izaut castrum, its excavations and its development .

Visit, conference, film, exhibition will retrace the history of this magnificent adventure which has already revealed the existence of a medieval village of 250 to 300 inhabitants over an area of ​​3 hectares for the town alone.

Various investigations also made it possible to have a more global view of the site with its low walls, its network of paths, its terraces, etc., which made it possible to establish a precise plan of the site.

An adventure that began in 2011 with the creation of the 7 hills association. The project has been strengthened over time with a team of professionals, archaeologists, surveyors, student interns, excavators, logistical assistance with the A7C association and numerous volunteers from the village but who also come from further afield.

The program for the day:

10 a.m. – morning on site for a visit to the castle.

12:30 p.m.: Lunch break, grills.

2:30 p.m.: afternoon in the room, with the exhibition of certain objects discovered during the 2022 and 2023 excavations, accompanied by the presentation of 5 new panels presenting the work carried out at the castle and the use of certain objects.

Conference : excavating a site from the ground, the excavation and development of Castet d’Izaut since 2011.

Screening of different films filmed as part of the excavations: promotional teasers for crowdfunding (2022 and 2023), films by student volunteers on the 2023 excavation, and the documentary series on the progress of the excavation (2023 Excavation Notebook).

All activities are free to access, you just need to register for lunch (reservation on 06 95 63 39 23, price €10).

This project, which began in 2011, is supported by the State, the Region, the Department, Cagire Garonne Salat, the municipality of Izaut-de-l’Hôtel and by the own resources of the 7 hills association.
