Each year, the Hall of Fame announces 10 nominees who are in the running for the Ford C. Frick Award. Basically, the award recognizes excellence in a baseball descriptor.
Each year, the winner is honored in Cooperstown.
It was today that the Temple published the list of 10 candidates who will be in opposition for the title. And as has been the case for several years, the name of Jacques Doucet is found on the list.
It is on December 11 that we will know if he won or not.
The problem that comes up every time is that the majority of people who vote do not speak French. And since Mr. Doucet cannot be understood to his full extent, he does not win.
And this, even if everyone in Quebec knows that he deserves to be honored in the Hall of Fame.
I don’t know if the fact that the Expos no longer exist also works against him, but having created a baseball vocabulary in a foreign language and having worked rigorously for years clearly deserves a lot of recognition.
But as long as voters cannot realize 100% to what extent he changed the face of baseball in Quebec by describing the games of the first team established outside the United States, Mr. Doucet risks remaining in the shadows.
And it’s really a shame.
We can hope that this year the trend will change, but I have my doubts. I really wonder if he will receive the honor he deserves before it’s too late.
