Early Sunday evening, officers from the Memphrémagog Police Authority (RPM) were called to attend an accident at the intersection of 13e Rang and chemin Alfred-DesRochers. On site, patrol officers noted “that a 2022 Nissan Sentra vehicle was heavily damaged and its driver miraculously escaped without major injuries,” reports Lieutenant Carl Pépin in a press release.

“On site, RPM agents immediately noted that excessive speed played an important role in the accident and other clues converged towards the hypothesis that the driver of the accident vehicle was involved in a high-speed race with a another motorist,” adds Lieutenant Pépin.

The man was taken to hospital. As he showed “symptoms of intoxication”, he had to provide a blood sample to the authorities.

“A file could be submitted to the DPCP concerning dangerous driving and possible impaired driving following the result of the analysis of the blood samples. In addition, the investigation is continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the driver’s exit from the road,” summarizes Carl Pépin.

Boat theft

Also on Sunday, this time in the morning, RPM agents were called to Camping Hatley. “A witness who saw an individual trying to start a boat on the edge of Lake Magog alerted the police. According to the witness, it was not this individual’s boat and the agents proceeded to arrest a repeat offender well known for numerous thefts and other criminal offenses,” says Carl Pépin.

The 36-year-old Sherbrooke resident who possessed burglary tools and who is well known to the police was arrested. He had been released from detention a few hours earlier, describes Carl Pépin.

“He will face charges of attempted boat theft, possession of burglary tools and breach of probation.”
