In 2023, almost one in three industrialists in the sector (30%) ended the year with a loss, according to a study by the Banque de France. “Our companies must be able to get out of the red,” Christiane Lambert, new president of the Federation of French charcuterie and catering companies (Fict) and former boss of the majority agricultural union FNSEA, told AFP.

The latter pointed out the risk that the 300 members of the sector, including the heavyweights Herta, Fleury Michon and Aoste, “lose their place on the shelves in the face of imported products, which is also detrimental for breeders”. Faced with this double risk, Fict is calling for “revaluations” of purchase prices from manufacturers as annual commercial negotiations begin with supermarket brands.
