Migo Robotics may have aimed a little high for its first robot vacuum cleaner. By relying on motorized arms, Ascender was supposed to be able to clean homes on several levels without user assistance, but the company has just announced the end of the project. The approximately 2.5 million dollars raised on KickStarter will not have been enough to finance the final stages of development, and will be directly returned to contributors.

Insurmountable difficulties, but a possible recovery

Without going into details, the manufacturer indicates that it encountered difficulties and preferred to put an end to the wait of contributors in the face of their impatience. The R&D and marketing teams have already been thanked, but Migo Robotics still mentions a possible resumption of the project. Ascender has reportedly attracted the attention of at least two of the largest robot vacuum manufacturers, pushing them to make takeover offers.

No name is mentioned, but we can cite several manufacturers who are interested in overcoming obstacles, such as Roborock with the Adaptilift technology of the Qrevo Curv presented at the IFA. Dreame also presented similar technology at the same show, but not yet an equipped robot.

Migo Robotics is obviously committed to keeping its community informed if one of the offers is successful. The hope of seeing a robot vacuum cleaner capable of climbing stairs is therefore not completely dead, but Ascender may not be the first of its kind. Even in the event of a recovery, it is not guaranteed to see the light of day. The buyer could just as easily be content to adopt its technologies on another model.
