Recap “Le Nouvel Obs” takes stock of the changes taking place from this Tuesday, October 1.
The start of the month is often accompanied by its share of changes, and October 2024 is no exception. Increase in APL, gas prices, vaccination, drop in speed on the Paris ring road… “Le Nouvel Obs” takes stock.
• Revaluation of small pensions
It was one of the government’s promises. Around 850,000 retirees will benefit from an increase in their retirement pension. This increase amounts to 50.94 euros per month on average and will be applied from the September pension, on October 9.
It results from the 2023 pension reform, from which 600,000 people already benefited last year: “Some of the beneficiaries had not yet received it and are therefore affected by this payment. This includes a catch-up of sums owed for one year, the date the reform came into force.explains the Public Service site.

This increase concerns retirees with a small basic pension (“not exceeding 847.57 euros per month”) and having had a complete career.
• Revaluation of APL
This will be one of the most anticipated changes for all tenants receiving a personal housing allowance (APL). In order to follow the increase in rents, these will be increased by 3.26%. For a beneficiary receiving 150 euros of APL, they will receive 154.89 euros in October. These will be paid on October 4, and not on the 5th of the month as usual.
APLs are calculated according to place of residence, family situation and resources. No action is necessary to benefit from the revaluation.
• Increase in the benchmark price of gas
The new benchmark gas prices are known, and they are marked by a slight increase of 5.37%, or from 130.21 to 137.20 euros per megawatt hour. The rise “affects all categories of consumers” et “raises crucial questions about the evolution of French household energy bills in the months to come”underlines the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), which publishes this benchmark price every month, intended to help consumers in choosing their supplier.

• Fight against telephone number theft

• Start of the vaccination campaign against flu and Covid

• The price of SUV parking increases in Paris
