By winning this lot, the most important of the auctions, ENGIE strengthens its presence in the South American electricity sector, where the Group already operates 6,000 km of power lines, including 2,700 km in Brazil alone, not to mention the additional 1,000 km currently under construction.
Electric networks, a prerequisite for renewable energy development
Expanding the electrical grid is essential for Brazil to unlock its vast potential in renewable energy, which must be connected to consumption hubs. The 30-year concession won by ENGIE will serve 60 municipalities across five of Brazil’s most industrialized states—Santa Catarina, Paraná, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Espírito Santo; it also includes two substations and offers synergies with the Group’s other assets in this region.
The expansion of electricity transmission infrastructure is one of the key factors in ensuring a successful energy transition. ENGIE is fully committed to this effort. With this new victory, ENGIE will have built, in less than 10 years, 8,000 km of electricity network, with around forty substations. It also underscores the expertise of ENGIE teams in developing and operating large-scale electric infrastructure.
