The work to restructure and extend the emergency department is therefore completed. “Twice as large as the old ones, they have been sized for a reception capacity 35 to 40,000 entries per year. Enough to absorb current flows in better conditions,” summarizes the director of the hospital, Alexandre Fritsch.
Specific premises for psychiatric emergencies
They will be organized according to different flows. Patients on stretchers will be cared for independently of other patients. Those relating to psychiatric emergencies will also have specific premises and boxes will be dedicated to children, specifies the Albi town hall.
“The new building will also include on the first floor two additional operating theaters and the new sterilization unit,” adds Philippe Orgebin, director in charge of support functions at the hospital center. For the sterilization unit, the launch will be during the summer. And the two new blocks will be put into service in September.
New offices for ENT, dermatology, surgery, gynecology…
After the opening to the public in 2023 of part of the consultation platform, new offices will also be put into service in May.
THE May 7, 2024 this will be for ENT, dermatology and surgery. May 16 for gynecology and obstetrics.
23 million euros were necessary for new emergencies, the extension of the operating room and the consultation platform.
Furthermore, as part of the construction of the new emergency rooms, a mortuary room was created. It will make it possible to welcome loved ones in better conditions and to take corneal samples (upon agreement).
What remains is the Renaudié boarding school and nursing home
Two other modernization projects still remain to be carried out in the months and years to come: starting this summer, the restructuring of the boarding school (46 studios delivered between 2026 and 2027), located within the hospital grounds, and the renovation -extension of the Renaudié nursing home which includes the creation of a new circular building. With a budget of 19 million euros for delivery in 2027.
