After being a gold medalist by the French Judo Federation, Lionel Quillet was honored by the Minister of Sports and Olympic and Sports Games who awarded him the gold medal for Youth, Sports and Commitment associative.
At 71, Lionel has a large number of volunteer hours under his belt: in music, songwriter, guitarist, choir director. In the 80s, as president of the “Musicœur” association, he traveled the small villages of Indre with his friends from the orchestra, voluntarily offering songs by Brassens, Brel, Ferrat… and some compositions from the group .
But the starting point for these medal presentations was judo. Lionel started judo at the age of 16, in 1969, in Paris with prestigious teachers: Louis Combes and Pierre Albertini.
Black belt in 2009
Put on hold for a few years, he returned to the kimono following a bet in September 2000 at the Montech club. With his experience as a specialist nursery school teacher, he quickly began to help out during lessons. President of the Montech club from 2005 to 2014, he passed his black belt in February 2009, his Federal Volunteer Teacher Certificate in June 2009, his second Dan in 2016, and obtained his Professional Martial Arts Instructor Qualification Certificate. In 2009, he was elected President of the Departmental Judo Committee. A visionary, he surrounds himself with a qualified team to bring his ambitious projects to fruition, bring teacher training closer together, create a sector of excellence for Benjamins and Minimes, and create a position of departmental technical advisor.
But the project will require 15 years of work with the creation of a departmental dojo in Montech which will also be dedicated to the local judo club and the two secondary schools. To make this project a reality, the municipality of Montech, the departmental council of Tarn-et-Garonne, the regional council and the French Judo Federation worked together. The dojo is expected to open in late 2025.
For all of his voluntary commitment, both in culture and in sport, Lionel Quillet was decorated with the gold medal for youth, sports and community involvement by the prefect on September 11.
