The City of Nogent-le-Rotrou (Eure-et-Loir) continues its actions around disability and is offering a day of disabled sports and adapted sports, Saturday June 8, 2024, at the Robert-Huwart sports complex, in partnership with the disabled sports committee of Eure-et-Loir.
A day that is particularly close to the heart of Alain Vergnol, former PE teacher (Physical and sports education) and above all municipal councilor responsible for disabilitywho has been working on this event for many months.
“Solène Barraud, employee of the Eure-et-Loir disabled sports committee, noticed that there were many actions around disabled sports in Nogent-le-Rotrou, such as the joëlette operation at Nojambée, Courir en ville, inclusive club training with nine Nogent clubs… So she came to me,” recalls Alain Vergnol
Raising awareness of disability among able-bodied people
So, on June 8, 2024, sixteen Nogent clubs will adapt their practice in disabled sports (intended for people with motor or sensory disabilities) and/or adapted sport (intended for people with mental and/or psychological disabilities).
It won’t be pétanque, but boccia, not football, but rather blind football (disabled sport practiced by visually impaired athletes, Editor’s note)
“The first objective is to offer all disabled people adapted sports to their disability. And the second, raise awareness among the able-bodied to the practice of sport for these people. For example, they will realize that wheelchair basketball is not so obvious,” argues Alain Vergnol.
Workshops led by licensees
Throughout the afternoon, from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., disabled or able-bodied people can move from one workshop to another to try out these different sporting practices. “Each club will come with its licensees, and it’s up to them to keep their workshop alive.”
