The Calmilhe farm in Mazamet welcomes Emmanuel Gisclard, beekeeper and beekeeper on Sunday October 6 during the “farm to farm” day.
Beekeeper Emmanuel Gisclard has been participating in the “farm to farm” day for several years. This year, on Sunday October 6, he is welcomed to the Calmilhe farm in Mazamet where on his stand, he will explain his job as a beekeeper, the organization and the life of a hive.
Emmanuel Gisclard is a beekeeper in his native village of Aiguefonde at the foot of the Montagne Noire. “I manage around 600 hives to be able to produce different varieties of honey. I practice so-called transhumant beekeeping where I will move my hives in the departments of Tarn and Aude depending on the different flowerings that our beautiful region offers.”
It will be possible to taste the six varieties of honey that it produces (white heather, acacia, mountain, chestnut, etc.)
“As a result, I will be able to offer you different honeys and therefore different flavors such as white heather, chestnut, scrubland or even all mountain flower honey.”
In addition to the production of honey which mainly occupies it from March to September, it also produces chestnuts, the variety of which is the dauphine chestnut.
“My chestnut grove is located in Aiguefonde and it is a heritage that we received from our ancestors, in fact some trees are more than 200 years old. I strive to preserve this tradition and this fruit heritage which is offered to us in preserving existing trees and planting and grafting new chestnut trees. The chestnuts harvested in October are mainly used to produce chestnut jam and natural chestnuts in jars.
Emmanuel’s products are available at the Crèmerie du Center in Mazamet, Leclerc Mazamet, Intermarché Aussillon and he is present on Saturdays at the Castres market and at the summer Monday farmers’ markets in Mazamet.
