A 15-year-old teenager was indicted Monday evening for “murder” and imprisoned, two days after the stabbing murder of young Matisse in Châteauroux which shocked this commune in Indre and relaunched the debate on violence among some young people.
The mother, aged 37, was indicted for “intentional violence” against a “vulnerable person”, for having “slapped the victim”, Matisse, 16, said the prosecutor in a press release. of the Republic in Bourges, Céline Visiedo, who took over the file.
The minor and his mother are both of Afghan nationality and legally resident on French soil, according to the magistrate.
Matisse and the suspect “knew each other and had insulted each other before” the fatal brawl that occurred on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. near the Saint-Denis district, in Châteauroux, a peaceful town of some 43,000 inhabitants, according to the magistrate.
According to the suspect, during this confrontation, Matisse punched him. “Taken by anger”, the suspect returned home to take “a knife blade” and allegedly stabbed the victim “several times before fleeing”, according to the same Source.
The victim died due to “several puncture wounds”, one of which “hit directly the heart”, she said.
“The minor’s mother, who was following him, in turn slapped the victim,” said Ms. Visiedo.
The suspect, who had no convictions on his criminal record, had however just been indicted on April 22 for “violent theft in a meeting” by the Châteauroux investigating judge. He was placed under judicial supervision as part of this procedure.
Call for calm
The brawl had “nothing to do with Islamism, there is no religious character”, assured a Source close to the investigation interviewed by AFP.
The fact that the minor is of Afghan nationality has nevertheless led several figures from the right and the extreme right to denounce the government’s “migratory policy”.
At the microphone of RTL, Matisse’s father, Christophe Marchais, warned: “Let’s not mix everything up. Be careful of all the right-wing sides or elsewhere who appropriate this kind of thing.”
The prefect of Indre, Thibault Lanxade, called “everyone for calm and dignity”, according to a press release from the prefecture, specifying that “the personnel of the Châteauroux police remain widely deployed (…) to ensure the calm.”

The Saint-Denis district is “a classic residential district”, which is not “classified as a priority policy”, underlined Mayor Gil Avérous.
On Monday, residents and relatives placed white roses at the corner of the street where Matisse was taken in by emergency services, as well as in front of the victim’s father’s restaurant, noted an AFP correspondent.
“It’s nice, it shows us that a lot of people support us and loved +Matou+, Matisse,” breathes his father.
The mayor of Châteauroux was moved by the fact that the minor suspect had been arrested “twice” in recent weeks. “And a few days later, the same young man found himself in the street with a knife,” he told the press.
“The two protagonists, perpetrator and victim, are 15 years old. This is for me proof of the wildness, of the ultraviolence that our society is experiencing among minors,” said Mr. Avérous.
Matisse’s death comes after several incidents of violence between young people, such as the fatal beating in Viry-Châtillon of Shemseddine, 15, near his college.
After calling for “general mobilization”, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal began his consultations with political groups on Monday around his proposals intended to stem the violence of part of the youth.
