The City has just made official the program of festivities on the occasion of the passage of the Olympic Flame, which will travel through the city on Friday, May 17, between 9:55 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.
“We want a great and beautiful day for all Villemur residents. » This is what Jean-Marc Dumoulin and his team organizing the passage of the Olympic Flame in Villemur have been repeating and promising for many weeks. For Daniel Régis, the heritage tourism assistant who coordinates the events, “this day of Friday May 17 should be above all a fantastic celebration of sport and youth”. Because, at the end of the Flame’s journey through town, which is relatively short (around twenty minutes), the Vélodrome stadium will welcome more than a thousand schoolchildren who will be able to benefit from educational exhibitions on the Olympic Games (OG), as well as as sporting demonstrations.
A giant brunch at the Eiffel room
If the bearers of the Flame are, for the moment, not yet known in Villemur, the route of approximately 1 km 100 has been traced for a long time (read below), with 5 bearers who will each cover a little more than 200 meters . From 9 a.m., the population will meet at the town hall square to wait live for the Olympic convoy (around fifteen vehicles bringing together all the partners of the Flame and the Olympic Games). And to keep the public waiting, a break dance show will be followed with great attention, since this year the discipline is entering the official pantheon of Olympic sports.
At 11 a.m. (until 3 p.m.), the City, in partnership with Toulouse à Table and the Maison des Vins de Fronton, will offer a giant brunch in the Eiffel Room highlighting regional specialties (registration required in advance).
“And we continue the festivities all evening,” announces Daniel Régis. It announces a gourmet market of local producers and lots of music, predominantly Occitan. The day will end with fireworks at around 11 p.m.
Route of the Flame: At 9:55 a.m., lighting of the Flame on Place Charles Ourgaut. The Flame will then take this route: rue de la République; intersection between Pierre Marchet, Général Leclerc and Emile Sabatié streets at the barrier; public garden at the corner of Avenue du Pont; rue Winston Churchill, with passage in front of the Halle Brusson. When the Flame passes over the suspension bridge, it must remain deserted, no pedestrians being admitted. Likewise, as part of the Vigipirate emergency plan and for security reasons, access to the Stade Vélodrome will be reserved for schoolchildren.
