Death of Mathis, 15, stabbed in Châteauroux: who was the victim?

A 15-year-old teenager was killed on Saturday April 27 in the evening during a stabbing fight in Châteauroux (Indre). The brawl occurred around 6 p.m. in the Saint-Denis district. The suspect, aged 15, was arrested approximately two hours after the fight and taken into police custody. The suspect’s mother, aged 37, was also arrested and taken into custody.

Apprentice cook and son of a restaurateur

The victim, Mathis, aged 15, was from the town of Châteauroux. On Saturday, the young apprentice cook, son of a restaurateur based in the center of this town in Indre, was accompanied by a friend, also an apprentice, at the time of the events.

An investigation into intentional homicide was entrusted to the Orléans judicial police and the departmental judicial police service at the Châteauroux police station. An autopsy was ordered by the prosecution.

A young man unknown to the police

Stabbed several times in the chest, he was rushed to hospital. The teenager finally succumbed to his injuries in the evening. The victim, with no prior history, was not known to the police.

The mayor of Châteauroux Gil Avérous asked not to “stigmatize, Saint-Denis is usually a quiet neighborhood”. The death of this teenager aroused emotion in his neighborhood. It comes after several incidents of violence between young people which have strongly influenced public opinion, such as the fatal beating in Viry-Châtillon of Shemseddine, 15, near his college.
