The family of former multiple world champion German driver Schumacher is reportedly the victim of an attempted blackmail.

In Germany, three suspects are being sent to court because they are accused by the German justice system of having attempted to extort the tidy sum of 15 million € to Schumi’s family.

This Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the German justice system requested the referral to court of three suspects in connection with an attempted blackmail of the family of former Formula 1 Champion Michael Schumacher.

According to the information that has emerged, a 53-year-old man and his 30-year-old son, both from Wuppertal, are accused of having tried to extort money from the family of the racing driver. 15 million € by threatening to publish on the darknet, the hidden and opaque side of the web, data that the company did not want to see disseminated, according to the explanations provided by the prosecution.

The accused allegedly purchased this data for a five-figure sum of between 10.000 et 99.000€ with a former security guard who was then working for Michael Schumacher’s family at his property in Gland, on Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

The former security guard is accused of secretly copying this data before leaving his post in March 2021.

Particularly sensitive images are being discussed showing Michael Schumacher after his skiing accident, which occurred on December 29, 2013 in the French Savoyard resort of Méribel les Allues.

The former security guard for the Schumacher family will face two charges:

Complicity in attempted blackmail and invasion of privacy.

He faces a prison sentence according to the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office, whose request for referral to trial has yet to be approved by the court judge.
