Journalists from Guardian revealed that , ’s potential vice-president, confided in her memoir, titled “The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move Forward”, that she had killed her dog, as well as her goat and three of her horses. These newspaper revelations did not fail to provoke a reaction from many American political figures.

According to the governor, her dog Cricket had “aggressive behavior” and acted like a “trained assassin”. Kristi Noem mentions in particular a hunting trip during which the animal attacked private chickens. She then allegedly took him to a gravel pit in order to shoot him. The potential vice-president explains: “I hated that female dog”.

Kristi Noem used this confession about her pet to defend her political will, saying she can do anything that seems “difficult, dirty and ugly” if necessary. Trump’s potential vice-president, however, reacted to the article in Guardian on X stating: “We love animals, but tough decisions like this are made all the time on a farm. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we had to put down three horses that had been in our family for 25 years.”
