C8 is broadcasting a great classic of French cinema from the 80s on Sunday April 28, 2024 at 9:20 p.m.! Often compared to the film The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, The Great Forgiveness, directed by Alexandre Arcady, follows the Bettoun clan, a Jewish pied-noir mafia family, which has control over the management of casinos, the organization of boxing matches and clandestine games, pimping and racketeering. All-powerful, the Bettoun clan is ready to do anything to maintain its hegemony, including eliminating all those who dare to challenge it.

The Great Forgiveness : a very masculine cast

The least we can say is that the casting of Great Forgiveness is very masculine! In the role of Raymond Bettoun, the patriarch of the clan, we find the late Roger Hanin, who died on February 11, 2015 at the age of 89. The actor finds this one of the most significant roles of his career, with of course the series Navarro on the television. Raymond Bettoun’s son, Maurice, is played by Richard Berry, who remains close friends with the director Alexandre Arcady, and his nephew, Roland, by Gérard Darmon. Facing them, we also find the late Jean-Louis Trintignant, in the role of Commissioner Duché, who dreams of dismantling the Bettoun clan, but also Bernard Giraudeau, Jean-Pierre Bacri, Robert Hossein, Jean Benguigui and even Richard Bohringer. Even Serge Gainsbourg makes a short appearance there. Faced with all these men, there are really few women in the cast. Let us still mention Anny Duperey who plays Carole, and Clio Goldsmith who plays Viviane, the femme fatale of the film.

The young woman has, however, played alongside some very big names in cinema: the late Virna Lisi in The cicadaIsabelle Huppert in The Lady of the CamelliasPatrick Dewaere in Directly southor even Pierre Mondy and Claudia Cardinale in Gift. But tired of only playing femme fatales and prostitutes, most often scantily clad, Clio Goldsmith ended her acting career in 1986. a first marriage to Italian businessman Carlo Alessandro Puri Negri, with whom she had a daughter named Talitha, she married for the second time the Englishman Mark Shand. Together, Clio Goldsmith and Mark Shand had a daughter, Ayesha, in 1993, before divorcing in 2010. Died four years later, Mark Shand was none other than the little brother of the woman who is now Queen of England , Camilla Parker-Bowles. Has Clio Goldsmith, who now lives in London, kept in touch with her now very famous ex-sister-in-law? The story does not say…
