John Travolta recalls the day he met Quentin Tarantino before landing a role in pulp Fiction

The 30th anniversary of pulp Fiction allowed John Travolta to remember the day he spent with Quentin Tarantino before landing a role in the cult 1990s film. “I spent a day with Quentin because I received a call from an agent who told me: ‘There is a young and new director who made Reservoir Dogs and he desperately needs to meet you. You’re his favorite actor and he wants to work with you,'” he recalled. After visiting the director, who actually lived in his old apartment in Hollywood, the American actor explained that he played board games based on the films that marked his career. After a few rounds with Quentin Tarantino, John Travolta was determined to find out a little more about the director, who was still a novice in Hollywood. “I said to myself : ‘Okay, I don’t know this guy, but I need to know how he’s doing financially.’ So I went over his finances with him. So I told him: ‘Okay, you’re a promising artist. You need to have some savings. Tell me how much you have. And I went through all his accounts, and I felt a little better after that.”he continued.

John Travolta: this role that gave a second wind to his career

A week after spending a surreal day with Quentin Tarantino, John Travolta learned that he had landed the role of Vincent Vega in pulp Fiction. “A week later, he offered me the role of Vincent. And I said: ‘For what ? What did you see in me that would convince you to give me this role?’ And he answered me: ‘You’re the one who helped me with my finances. You had this analytical, theoretical and philosophical point of view that I need for this character. I want him to think about everything he’s been through.’ And that was it”.
