Toulonjac. Great success for Heritage Day

On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, a little over one hundred and thirty visitors came to discover the little-known gems of the St-Michel church in Toulonjac. For a small village, it is always surprising and flattering to welcome heritage lovers from Deux-Sèvres, Besançon or Ile de . These treasures, fiercely preserved by our ancestors, have survived the centuries, despite the vicissitudes of the Hundred Years’ War and later the Wars of Religion. In Rouergue, Protestants and Catholics massacred each other for decades, sometimes with cannon fire! The traces of these battles are still visible. Visitors were able to appreciate the art of Jean Coupiac (1450) and Guillaume Lissorgues (1550) who created the ribs of the vaults and the first-rate sculptures. The walkers observed with interest the remains of the fortifications of our village and the cultural and architectural curiosities of our church. Climbed to the top of the bell tower, the visitors appreciated the solid and recent renovation work of the bell tower as well as the centuries-old techniques of construction of the belfry as well as the musicality of Léoninne and Philomène, the beautiful bells offered by parishioners, a long time ago.
